When the Leys came up for sale in 2011 there was great uncertainty as to what its future would be.  At a well attended village meeting in Spring 2011 there was a clear view that something should be done on behalf of the village.   The previous owner allowed residents to use the meadow for the annual bonfire, for sledging in winter,  enjoying a walk across the the two public footpaths .......... everyone in the village felt that we ‘sort of’ owned it. .....

The Leys formally came into the ownership of  the Village in 2013.  We benefited from a subtantial Heritage Lottery grant to which the Village  contributed £21,000.  We asked residents to help and very generations donations flowed in to hit our target within 3 weeks  ~saving a lot of cream teas and plant sales!  By that time we had received help and advice from Warwickshire Wildlife Trust  and the County Musuem Field Services who did a habitat survey and concluded the Leys should be designated as a Local Wildlife Site.
