Broadband Update

Fibre Broadband in Combrook

The Good News is that superfast Fibre Broadband is now available to order in the Village From Summer 2018!

So last Summer  the Cabinet on Church Hill was made 'live' for ordering an upgrade to a fibre service, for those properties who can receive it.  There were some problems at first,  but it is believed all properties within the the village itself  can now order fibre upgrades.

More detail
Two things changed on the Combrook Village phone network over the weekend  16/17th and   23rd  June 2018:

    • all of our phone lines were designated as having available Fibre To The Premises (FTTP ) "on Demand "   or FTTPoD

    • and lines were also designated as having Fibre To The Cabinet (FTTC)  available

The planned fibre upgrade for the village brings Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC) on Church Hill.  So we will continue to use our existing phone lines to connect to the cabinet.

'FTTP on demand’  means a “demand” or an order for BT Openreach or other Specialist Contractors to install a Fibre line all the way to the premises can be made  -but the order has to be paid for!
Costs are likely to be significant to carry out the engineering work required to lay the fibre underground.

You can check on BT's  broadband checker website to see what broadband services are available on a phone line.   For further information see our  Broadband Checker webpage

If you contact your Internet Service Provider and ask them about the availability of a fibre service, they will check your line and tell you if fibre is available.    Most Internet Service   providers are only offering services through a fibre to the cabinet   (FTTC) installation.

Whilst FTTP ( Fibre to the Premises)   -more accurately called Fibre to the Premises on Demand (FTTP oD)  is possible, it is likely the ISP is unable to offer that as an option since it is not cost effective for most ISPs to manage the arrangements.

It is the case that CSW broadband Project is implementing Fibre to the Premises (FTTP)  as a way forward for some outlying communities but this is not what is currently planned for Combrook Village.
